Becoming Good To Attract Good
Becoming Good to Attract Good: The Path to Ensuring Good Things Always Happen to Good People
In mathematics, there is a type of equation called the quadratic equation. While I don’t want to bore readers who may not have much interest in math, there is a specific formula that solves all quadratic equations. Once you’ve mastered this formula, you can solve any quadratic equation. Since the universe has its scientific origins in mathematics, you could say that some problems indeed have solutions when approached with the right formula.
Regarding the question above, I’ve often wondered—based on what I see around me—why good things happen to bad people and why bad things happen to good people. I discovered I wasn’t alone in this puzzle. King David also faced similar questions and expressed his emotional struggle with the situation in the Psalms. However, David found his answers when he entered the sanctuary of the Lord.
Being good is a state of absolute goodness in its entirety. Doing good refers to performing acts of goodness, while having good is the result of receiving good things. According to God, everything on earth is inherently good, but it’s the spirit of a man that either affirms or denies this reality, depending on whether that spirit aligns with God's.
Why Do Good Things Happen to Bad People?
Bad people are those who repeatedly do things that are out of line with goodness, often with reckless disregard, until they are considered bad people. Yet, good things still happen to them—the sun still shines on them, giving them vitamin D; the rain still falls on their crops, making them grow. The principles that govern prosperity, if followed, will make even bad people prosperous.
Maybe bad people aren’t entirely bad. Perhaps they have some elements of good within them, and these elements respond to God’s inherent goodness. When they act based on this goodness, they attract good things.
Why Do Bad Things Happen to Good People?
Haven’t we all seen good people fall ill or suffer things that seem like they should only happen to bad people? In life, we tend to attract what we are—there’s a deeper reality to this, even though coincidences may seem to exist on a surface level. It could be that good people still have small elements of bad within them that haven’t been removed. These elements, when acted upon, may attract negative circumstances.
Jesus is a fascinating example. He endured every trial and challenge any person could face and triumphed over them all. Yet, Jesus didn’t call himself "good." Instead, he always deferred that label to God. At different stages, Jesus’ words reflected his growth: at one point, he debated the scriptures; later, he practiced them; and eventually, he taught them. But even Jesus experienced bad things. The bad things that happened to him were because he bore the badness present in all men. To change that, he had to undergo death and resurrection, overcoming the badness in humanity itself. In doing so, his resurrected form became immune to bad things. His second coming would bring about a state where only good things happen.
How Can Good Things Always Happen to Good People?
A lot is happening both inside and outside of a person at all times. The universe is present within every human, but our awareness of this reality varies. Some people are more aware of the physical world, others of the soul, and some of the spiritual realm.
To guarantee that good things happen to us, simply doing good isn’t enough. Doing is a function of personal will, and that will can only take you so far. Having good things is desirable, but being good is the way to guarantee that good things come your way.
If we attract what we are, then we must be good in every aspect to attract good in every aspect. Jesus was the first person to achieve this reality after Adam. So, it is attainable, but it requires going through the processes of crucifixion, death, and resurrection in those areas of our lives that attract bad things.
