Why Health is the Greatest Wealth
Why Health is the Greatest Wealth
Wealth is often seen in the abundance of material possessions, yet health, the foundation of our existence, is the greatest wealth we can possess. Just as we take the air we breathe for granted, we often overlook the health that sustains us every day.
In human interactions, symbols of wealth can make life easier—think of dishwashers for those who dislike washing dishes, or cars that make travel more convenient. However, while wealth reflects the external comforts of life, health speaks to the internal well-being that enables us to enjoy life fully.
The body is our primary medium of interaction with the world. Our skin provides a sense of touch, the eyes give us sight, the ears help us hear, the nose allows us to breathe and smell, and the mouth is essential for speaking and nourishment. A healthy body allows us to fully express our desires, live a good quality of life, and extend that life for as long as possible.
When God created the body, it was designed to be self-sustaining. Historically, some religious texts claim early humans lived for centuries. Nevertheless, the body’s systems work in harmony. For example, the eyes see the world around us, but it’s the retina and brain that interpret what we see. The mouth consumes both organic and inorganic substances, but it’s the digestive system that determines which nutrients to retain and which to expel.
The human body functions like a well-oiled machine, constantly maintaining itself. It’s a marvel of complexity and mystery. Take the mind, for instance. It operates as a platform for thoughts, processing data from the environment and using it to direct the body's actions. But where do thoughts come from, and why can we "see" them in our mind while they remain invisible to others?
Mental Health
Mental health governs the rational aspects of life. When someone has sound mental health, they can make balanced decisions and manage life’s demands. The human mind has free will, but the body’s ability to execute thoughts and desires is limited by capacity and physical health. A well-balanced mind is essential for making the most of this powerful gift of free will.
Emotional health refers to the state of the soul—the generator of feelings, emotions, and moods. Meanwhile, spiritual health connects us to a deeper layer of existence, often linking us to God or a higher power. The state of our spiritual health often reflects our overall well-being. While it’s not always easy to change surface-level issues in our lives, spiritual growth can initiate deep and lasting transformations.
Supporting the Human Body
The best way to support the human body is to take care of it in the right ways. Though secondary measures, such as medication and treatments, are available, sticking to the basics is often sufficient to maintain a healthy, functioning body. These basics include:
Vitamin D from Sunlight: The sun provides essential Vitamin D, which is vital for bone health and overall energy.
Balanced Diet: Consuming a variety of natural foods—vegetables, fruits, and meats—gives the body the nutrients it needs to function.
Rest and Sleep: Sleep allows the body to rest and repair itself, ensuring that internal systems continue to work properly.
Mental exercises, such as puzzles or problem-solving, keep the brain sharp, while spiritual practices help nourish both the spirit and soul. Together, these efforts ensure that our health, the greatest wealth we can possess, is well-maintained.
